EVENT NETWORKING PLATFORM

YMM — Reimagining Speed Dating Through Events, Social Networking & Digital Engagement

Reimagining Modern Dating Through a Social, Event-Driven Web Platform

About the Project

YMM (You Meeting Me) is a dating website designed to help people discover nearby dating events, friends, dates, and dating venues in one connected space. Registered users can send dating requests to one another, browse profiles, photos, and videos, and take part in a range of social activities built into the platform. Beyond conventional matchmaking, YMM introduced structured, event-based dating formats — including speed dating and “e-matches,” a timed online dating game giving the client a way to turn in-person dating events into a fully digital, scalable experience.

Objective

The client’s goal was to move a manual, offline dating-event business onto a digital platform that could handle event creation, venue management, RSVPs, payments, and social interaction between members while also introducing new, engaging formats of online dating that would differentiate YMM from conventional swipe-based apps. The objective was not simply to digitize a booking process, but to build a full social-networking layer around it, so that members could build familiarity with one another before ever attending an event.

The Challenge: Existing System

Our Solution

Cyblance approached YMM as more than a booking tool — the platform needed to combine event logistics, social networking, and gamified online dating into a single, cohesive experience. We structured the solution around five core pillars:

1. A Platform for Posting Dating Events

We built the mechanisms needed for both the website owner and individual users to define and publish dating concepts of their own. The website owner can create venues and configure speed dating events that other users can RSVP to, while regular users can create their own dating events and invite other members to join shifting event creation from a one-to-many, owner-only model to a collaborative, community-driven one.

2. Social Networking on a Dating Platform

A full social-networking layer was layered onto the dating platform, allowing users to create profiles, search for and view other members, comment on photos, track profile views, and message each other directly including live chat. This gave members a low-pressure way to build familiarity and rapport with one another before committing to a dating invitation, which was a key gap in the original manual process.

3. Speed Dating Event Automation

We digitized the client’s core speed dating concept end to end. Users can browse upcoming speed dating events and RSVP directly through the platform, take part in the live event, vote on the other participants they met, and then view the results once the event concludes replacing the client’s manual phone-based coordination and post-event record-keeping entirely.

4. An Online Dating Concept, Built for Fun

To meet the client’s ask for an engaging, lighter way to experience online dating, we built “e-matches” a timed online dating game where users select other members within a set time interval and express interest in dating them, turning the matching process into an interactive, game-like experience rather than a static browsing exercise.

5. Mobile Solution

Recognizing that dating and event discovery are inherently mobile behaviors, we extended the full platform concept into a dedicated mobile application, giving users the ability to browse events, manage profiles, and connect with other members on the go, with the same core functionality available on desktop.

Industry Context: Where Online Dating Is Headed

Results & Outcomes

The solution delivered a working replacement for what had previously been a fully manual, offline business process, while introducing capabilities the client did not have before:

  • Event coordination from venue publishing to RSVP collection to payment moved from manual phone calls and spreadsheets to a self-service digital workflow for both the business owner and members.
  • A social layer (profiles, messaging, live chat, photo comments, profile views) gave members a way to engage with one another before attending events, addressing the client’s original gap around interaction and familiarity.
  • Speed dating, previously run and recorded entirely by hand, became a fully digital format from RSVP through live voting to results.
  • The e-matches feature gave the client a distinct, gamified take on online dating not offered by conventional dating apps.
  • A companion mobile application extended the full experience beyond desktop, matching how members naturally engage with dating platforms.

Conclusion

YMM’s development shows how a traditionally offline, relationship-driven business speed dating events run out of physical venues can be reimagined as a connected digital platform without losing the personal, event-based experience at its core. By combining event and venue management, social networking, and a distinctive gamified dating format within a single CodeIgniter-based web and mobile solution, Cyblance helped the client move from manual coordination to a scalable, self-service platform, while giving members new, engaging ways to meet both online and in person.
